  3.     The World Factbook data can be accessed in a variety of ways.
  4.     
  5.     There are 2 folders of additional resource materials beyond
  6.     what is available directly within the World Factbook Database.
  7.           * MAPS folder has the maps for the 247 countries in the
  8.              following formats: PICT, PCX, and TIFF -- with and without
  9.              city names.  These are made available for import into your
  10.              graphics program.
  11.           * DATABASE folder has numerical data in a variety of formats
  12.              so that you can import them into your favorite database or
  13.              spreadsheet program and compare the data about all the
  14.              countries!  -- Find out which country has the lowest or 
  15.              highest birth rate / death rate / economic growth rate 
  16.              / GNP / etc.

  18.     **** HyperCard Navigator Stack -- NEW FOR THIS RELEASE ****
  19.     "World_Factbook_1991_Navigator"
  20.     In HyperCard we have built a HyperCard "stack" to access the data in the
  21.     following ways: search for country names, search for any text,
  22.     find countries geographically, "zoom" in or out of geographic
  23.     regions, and finally select countries alphabetically.
  24.     Features include: 16 color maps of each country and b/w region maps, 
  25.     text descriptions of each country, 3 search types, and on-line help.
  26.     The TextWare version below has additional text appendices about world
  27.     organizations.

  31.     We have a full database in TextWare, which includes text
  32.     descriptions of each country, color maps for each country,
  33.     and text appendices about the United Nations, world 
  34.     organizations, and measurements.

  38. Getting Started:

  40.     1. Open the "MAC" folder.
  41.  
  42.     2. Choose which method you wish to access the data
  43.           a) TextWare:
  44.                    double click on the "WWFB_91M.CTL" icon.
  45.                    (Features full text, plus appendices, fast searches, 
  46.                     and the ability to print the maps! )
  47.           b) HyperCard:
  48.                    double click on the "World_Factbook_1991_Navigator" icon.
  49.                    (Features Geographical Navigation + selection)

  52.          Help is available under the "Help" Menu

  55.          Help is available under the "Apple" Menu.
  56.          For more detailed help, double click on the "_TWDOC.CTL" icon.

  58.     * You may choose to run TextWare from your own hard drive, to do this:
  59.         1. copy the folder "MAC" to your hard drive.
  60.         2. make sure the CD is in your CD-ROM drive and mount
  61.             on the desktop.
  62.         3. The data starts with an Introduction on card 1
  63.             and has a table of contents on card 2.
  64.     * Image Printing Note: Choose "Black&White" in the print dialog
  65.         (Color/Grayscale takes a long time...)
